The purpose of this blog is to document solid waste and water extraction projects that do not meet zoning requirements or are just very poorly conceived, in an effort to protect the rights and health, safety and welfare of neighboring landowners and residents. The initial project was Nestlé Waters in Kunkletown, Eldred Township. Later, the Synagro biosolids in Plainfield Township - the "Slate Belt Heat Recovery Center" was our focus. We all live downstream.

Numerous Eldred Township Citizens File Petition to Join in Appeal of Water Extraction Amendment
Forty-six citizens owning thirty-five tax parcels have filed a petition to intervene in the appeal of an amendment quietly passed in 2014 that added water extraction as a use allowed in Eldred Township's Commercial zoning district. Previously, water extraction was an industrial use, as is the case today in the other four townships with which Eldred Township has a regional comprehensive plan. Industrial uses are not permitted in the Commercial districts in any of the five townships within the region. Only by uniquely bastardizing the definition in Eldred Township to be "Manufacturing, Light" is this industrial use allowed in its Commercial zoning district.
